Everyday Glamour: Surround Yourself with Art!
I know the very word “art” can bring to mind expensive paintings or some collectors’ piece that belongs in a museum. But the truth is that a piece of artwork can be anything that you enjoy looking at or having around you. It can be as priceless as a child’s finger painting, a piece by a favorite local artist that you have saved your money to buy, or even something that you have created yourself. It is completely up to you! Whatever moves you.
Starting an art collection can seem intimidating, but it need not be so. One fun and easy way to get started is to purchase a piece of art every time you go on a vacation. Something by a local artist that represents your favorite part of your trip. Each time you look at it, it will bring back fond memories and your collection will be put together over time. It costs less that way, too! Another great way to get started on your collection, or add to it, is to attend a local art show or festival. Artists love to talk to people who appreciate their work and it is a wonderful way to get some insight into what the artist is saying with, or what went into making, a particular piece of work. Fall is the perfect time to check out upcoming festivals in your area. Again, don’t overlook the artwork of your children’s paintings and drawings that hold such cherished memories, or neglect to consider your own creative talents. I also want to remind you to think beyond drawings and paintings, and keep in mind sculpture, photography, and mixed media.
I have been fortunate enough to get to meet and know some truly talented artists over the years, and am excited to have the opportunity to introduce you to some of them and share their work with you! One artist that I have admired for several years is Karin Fecteau. I am lucky to be able to own one of her pieces in the purse series, and I enjoy looking at it everyday. And isn’t that what art is supposed to do, bring us joy? I know you will enjoy looking at this small sample of her work and will want to make sure to check out my interview with her and see more of her beautiful artwork on the Glamour Survival Guides! website.
An art collection is a very personal expression of your individuality. It should be a reflection of your personality and it will grace your life with beauty and glamour everyday.
