“Life is all about celebrations,” says Angela M. Graziano, founding editor of Something Green, www.somethinggreenevents.blogspot.com. “From holidays, to birthdays to unions, people enjoy taking the time to both plan and take part in significant milestones.”

Graziano’s youth was shaped by celebrations thanks to her father, a successful second-generation florist and event designer who maintains a roster of A-list clients. “I pretty much knew how to design a centerpiece while I was still in grade school,” jokes Graziano, whose inspired upbringing left her with a lifelong passion for creativity, style and design. After earning a degree in English she began her career as a freelance researcher for In Style Weddings in New York. (She also holds an MFA in Creative Writing and has taught writing at the college level. Most recently, she teaches English at a private high school).

But then young 20-something began to look for extra income, which led her back to the family business. After spending her weekdays in editorial offices, she began to spend her weekends designing and executing both private and corporate events. It was during this time that she began to see the severe environmental impact that often comes with event design. “It made (and still makes) me so sad to see the amount of waste associated with such celebratory events. For me, it somewhat tarnishes otherwise beautiful occasions.”
Something Green, which launched in November 2009 and has had a growing daily readership, has a simple mission: to provide readers with tips, resources, do-it-yourself tricks and inspiration to help the modern hostess plan stylish, contemporary, eco-chic events – from weddings to backyard BBQs and everything in-between.

“My goal, really, is to show hostesses that they do not need to sacrifice style in order to be eco-friendly. I want to show my readers, in the least ‘preachy’ way possible, that eco events, regardless of size, theme or budget, can be just as easy and economical to plan as their more traditional counterparts, and that the result can be equally chic.”

In addition to Something Green, Graziano’s creative work has appeared in Apple Valley Review, Ariel, Dislocate, LOST, and Portal Del Sol, among others. She is a regular contributor to the Eco Luxe Life.
